I made this 16” oval hole arch top as a prototypical exercise to use rosewood and, well, an oval sound hole.  I find the result truly compelling! A warmer, richer sound with the clear tonal separation usually attributable to the arch top.
    Engelman spruce top
    Katalox back
    Cocobolo sides, fret board, tail piece, headcap, and
        binding.
    Mahogany neck, bloodwood appointments, violin-grade
        aged one-piece maple bridge.
    Note the truss rod access under the neck joint cantilever
        and the friction-fit dovetailed tail piece.
