Custom Instruments
Sometimes someone sees in their mind's eye a guitar that has never been made. I certainly do, all the time. Over the years, I've been strongly compelled to follow my design muse into unknown territory, and create something completely unique. The well of possibilities pools deep.
Collaborative projects are especially rewarding. This is where the artistic, interpretive aspects of lutherie are brought to bear. On custom work, this is a chance to give a player-client a perfect fit, an ideal guitar they could find nowhere else.
My UK dealer, Trevor Moyle, has commissioned me to build an octave mandolin, using the Zorzi body shape. I think that's a great idea, to take one design and explore it from several angles, even creating an entirely new instrument.
Some of these unique guitars make it into my standard offerings, although most remain one of a kind.
